I teach A-Level Computer Science and have worked with sixth-form students for just over four years. Networks and computer architecture are probably my favourite parts of the course to teach, although I’m equally happy debugging Python code line by line. I tend to ask students to explain what they think a program will do before we run it. It’s a simple habit, but it quickly shows where misunderstandings about variables, loops or functions have crept in.

My background is in cybersecurity, so I particularly enjoy the networking, security and data sections of A-Level Computer Science. I’ve tutored the subject online for five years, mostly working with students in Years 12 and 13. Lessons are practical where possible: we might trace an algorithm, write a short program or pull apart a past-paper answer together. I also help students who understand the content well but struggle to turn that knowledge into concise exam responses.

I have seven years of experience teaching A-Level Computer Science, including students who arrive with very different levels of programming experience. I usually begin by identifying whether the difficulty is with the underlying theory or applying it to an unfamiliar problem. Algorithms, Boolean logic and databases are areas I teach frequently. During exam season my sessions become much more paper-focused, particularly trace tables, pseudocode and extended theory questions.
